Lyn Selensi is a human woman living in town on the main island, working at a record shop and living day by day. She is housemates with Neotiyeth Khasmut, and the two are close friends.

Profile

Appearance

Lyn is a six foot tall human with waist-length straight brown hair, pale skin, and vibrant blue eyes. She is physically fit, having somewhat defined biceps and a toned abdomen. She sports a black bandeau bra, dark blue skinny jeans, a brown belt with a gold buckle, and black low-top sneakers with white rubber toes. Her outfit also may include an open brown leather jacket, depending on the occasion.

She has a left part in her hair and side-swept bangs. Her lower eyelashes are always characterized by three downward-facing triangles.

Personality

Lyn is known by her friends for her cool personality, but it hides her potential for firey fury. Down-to-earth, laid-back, and bro-ish, Lyn is a great friend to hang out and relax with. Her genuine nature means that she cares deeply about the people she's close to, and likes to have thoughtful conversations using personal anecdotes to help people through their hard times. But when push comes to shove and something is threatening her friends, she will stop at nothing to protect them. Her weapon of choice if she ever needs to beat up bad guys is a metal pipe segment.

Personal relationships are very important to her. To her, getting to understand someone and to feel the way they feel is the sweet fruit of friendship. She likes to associate people she meets with elements of a song and imagine what kind of music they would make when combined.

She likes to get good at the things she does, she likes to feel like she's capable. Because of this, she is often willing to engage in competition not to feel better than other people but to feel like she herself is improving by testing her skills against other people with those skills. ...though she can be kind of a show-off especially when it comes to her athleticism.

Backstory

Pre-Island

Lyn was born on August 24, 2004, in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Her mother, Jennifer Selensi, raised her and her older sister Victoria without a known father. While Victoria inherited some of her mother's abilities as a half-succubus, Lyn did not.

Growing up, Lyn and Victoria often did not see eye to eye. In their social lives, Lyn often lived in Victoria's shadow. In school, her older sister always got more attention from friends and teachers while Lyn seemed to blend into the background. Lyn wasn't ever first or last, just somewhere near the uninteresting middle. As they got older, Victoria got more feminine and flirtatious while Lyn began presenting more tomboyish and disinterested, growing further apart from her sister and what she represented to Lyn. Even though her higher social status lead to Victoria associating less with Lyn publicly, they did have shared experiences that brought them closer sometimes. In middle school, her mother suggested that she take part in a school play that Victoria had already secured a leading role in. While aloof at first about once again being the "lesser sister" behind Victoria, she came to enjoy playing her role for herself and even got to feel another side to her sister when they ended up being a duet in a musical number.

In high school, Lyn joined a local queer garage rock band as a bassist. Being a part of a group that felt, talked, and dressed like she did made her feel seen in a way she never had before. Writing and playing music was how she found a way to express herself, finally feeling seen and appreciated for who she was. This also served as her bisexual awakening, having a brief relationship with the femme-presenting non-binary singer. Internal tensions rose gradually over time and the band eventually split, leaving Lyn once again without something to identify herself with. But now that she had a taste of living for herself, the way she wanted, she couldn't ever go back to the way things were. Her life before, environment she had grown up in, had started to feel like a burden of expectation. She wanted to start fresh, begin a new life for herself with new people that would know her for who she is, not who she was. She had visited the island of humans and monsters multiple times before and knew some friends that could help her find a place to live and work there. After finishing school, she packed her bags and set off.

Main Story

As a human immigrant from the United States, Lyn took some time to adjust to living with the cultural differences and amount of monsters that lived on the island. But now free from her previous social life and immersed in the shared monster-human culture, she found it easier to express herself and find her element. She moved into a studio apartment on the eastern edge of town, picking up a job at a local record shop to support herself. It was a cramped, dingy apartment, but she loved sitting by the window listening to music while watching the people walk by beneath her. With her new self-assured confidence in herself, she made a good impression on the people she met and quickly made new friends. As she saved up some money, her and one of her friends got together to rent a little duplex house. Lyn didn't mind the little apartment, but it was nice to move somewhere with multiple rooms and decent carpet.

One day, while Lyn was alone at home, she noticed a large vase in her kitchen that she did not recognize. When she reached out to touch it, the vase pulled her in and trapped her inside. The vase turned out to be Finley in disguise, using her shapeshifting powers to play a trick on her next unsuspecting victim. After this, Finley would often return to Lyn's house to surprise or annoy her (Finley said it was because she was "interesting"). The two came to trust each other as friends when Finley was faced with solidification and Lyn talked her back into loving life.

Demon Attack

The demon, taken Lyn's form in a picture.

Lyn first experienced the world of demons and demon hunters when, after coming home from work one autumn evening, she found MD-17801 in her living room. A demon had hidden itself in some pictures Lyn had hung up on the wall. MD, using an old CRT TV and her pistol, managed to capture the demon. Having watched her from afar for years, MD was already used to Lyn and recited her practiced introductory speech to her, expecting awe and gratitude. Unfortunately, their relationship did not get off to the smooth start that MD hoped it would. Lyn was visibly afraid of her (a very rare sight) and reeling from the shock of what she had experienced. Distressed by her first introduction to her longtime parasocial acquaintance going badly, MD returned to the 3.5th dimension. Lyn would see MD again later, but they wouldn't be friends for a long time.

Super Woob Gals 2

One day, Lyn and some friends went to attend the opening of a new diner in town. But suddenly, the opening ceremony was interuptted by Dr. Cheeseburger in his robot as he destroyed the brand-new diner. He then promised the crowd of onlookers that this was only a taste of the power he would use in his conquest to destroy all salads. However, during his speech he let the location of his base on the top of Mt. Meat slip, and as he retreated back to his lair Lyn and crew set off to foil his nefarious plan. After having navigated the treacherous terrain and overcome the obstacles set in place atop Mt. Meat, Lyn and her friends were able to stop Dr. Cheeseburger's master plan and destroy his burger-bot. The heroes had a celebration on live TV, with the broadcast somehow being intercepted by the TV that MD-17801 had confiscated.

Neotiyeth

After living with her close friend for a while, a job opportunity in another city caused her friend to have to move away. Struggling to afford the full weight of rent on her own, she posted a notice that she was looking for a new housemate. After some unsuccessful interviews with potential candidates, Lyn was reached out to by a new girl in town. They met, and Lyn was quickly endeared. The girl was mute, communicating using sign language. Despite this, Lyn could almost hear her emotion as they talked. The girl was enthusiastic, bubbly, and seemed to have a sincere love for life. She said her name was Neotiyeth, but she seemed to withhold her last name. Lyn was also puzzled to find out that she seemed to not have any sort of job or professional hobby but that she was more than willing to pay her share of rent from now on. But they got along so well that day that Lyn decided that it was better to have a nice housemate that could pay her share than a cold or creepy one that complained about rent.

As Lyn and Neotiyeth got closer with time, Lyn was exposed to Neotiyeth's secret history as, well, history, when tough looking research agents showed up at her house one day asking for someone who met Neo's description. Her instinct being not to trust them, she told them that she hadn't seen anyone like her and they moved on. She asked Neo what they might have wanted, and upon hearing that Lyn cared about protecting her even when she didn't know what was going on, Neo entrusted Lyn with her story. Lyn promised to protect Neotiyeth's secret and to keep her safe from being taken away again. They have continued to live together happily, and many flowers have come to decorate the house.
